With the hot summer months slowly going away and the cold weather returning, it’s hard to determine whether your swimming pool has a leak or not. During the summer it’s the bright, warm sun evaporating the water from your swimming pool. With the cold temperature and wind, you don’t know if it’s the sun evaporating the water or if there’s a leak in your pumps or in the liner itself. The cold weather and wind are major contributes to water loss, although if your swimming pool leaks, it’s going to lose more than a fourth of water each day. If it’s losing a lot of water it is most likely caused by your pool leaking.

There are a few ways you can determine leaks on your own instead of going straight to the professionals. The first thing you’ll want to inspect is if your pool is growing a lot of algae or if your pool water is becoming cloudy. These are indications of chemical imbalance, which can lead to inconsistent water levels. There are easy ways to fix this, such as, finding and fixing the leak or pH testing your pool water and making sure your chemicals are balanced properly.

If the tiles around your swimming pool are popping off, unsettlement in the ground around your pool or the deck attached to your pool has cracks in it are also indications that there is a pool leak somewhere that needs to be repaired.

If your swimming pool liner has soft spots, patches of grass growing larger than normal, or even if your pool is settling into the ground, these are strong indications that you have a underground pump/plumbing leak. Also, if you hear weird gurgling sounds around your pool or even near your pump systems, you can easily locate a pool pump leak there.

If you can not fix the leak on your own, call your pool builder and have it the pool leak repaired. The professionals can do it easily and they’re just one phone call away.
